Capitanes Defeat Wisconsin Herd and Remain Leaders of the West

Mexico City, March 9, 2026 — Capitanes de la Ciudad de México defeated the Wisconsin Herd 116–104 in a game where collective offense and strong contributions from the bench made the difference. With this result, the Mexico City team improves its record to 19–8 in the NBA G League regular season, remaining atop the Western Conference and moving closer to securing a playoff spot.
Capitanes took control of the game from the opening quarter. Reynan Dos Santos scored the first basket, and Boo Buie quickly sparked the offense with three consecutive three-pointers, setting the pace for the home team. Wade Taylor IV closed the period with a buzzer-beater, allowing Capitanes to take a 34–25 lead after the first 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, the team led by Vitor Galvani maintained strong offensive efficiency. Wade Taylor IV surpassed the 10-point mark with a three-pointer assisted by LJ Figueroa, while Buie also reached double digits. James Bouknight added a spectacular three-pointer over the defense, and Capitanes built a game-high 15-point lead before halftime. At the break, the Mexico City squad led 61–50, shooting 50% from the field and 58% from three-point range, while Buie, Figueroa, and Taylor combined for 45 points.
The third quarter saw a response from the Herd. Although Boo Buie opened the scoring for Capitanes, the visitors cut the deficit to just one point with 3:39 remaining in the quarter, forcing Galvani to call a timeout. Capitanes responded with key plays, including a difficult basket by LJ Figueroa and a strong sequence in which Andersson García grabbed an offensive rebound between two defenders and assisted Felipe Haase under the basket. Two consecutive three-pointers from Bouknight helped regain control and close the period with an 87–78 advantage.
In the final quarter, RJ Meléndez opened the scoring and later delivered an emphatic dunk off an assist from Figueroa. Wisconsin once again cut the lead to three points, but Capitanes answered with second-chance points and a three-pointer from Boo Buie that pushed the team past the 100-point mark. The home team ultimately secured the 116–104 victory.
Five players surpassed the 20-point mark in the game. For Capitanes, LJ Figueroa led with 24 points, followed by Boo Buie with 25 and James Bouknight with 20. For the Herd, K. Stewart recorded 24 points and S. Thompson added 22. Additionally, Andersson García once again delivered a strong performance on the boards, finishing with more than 10 rebounds.
Following the game, Wade Taylor IV was named the game’s Defensive Player, while LJ Figueroa was awarded MVP honors.
Capitanes will look to repeat the victory when they face the Herd again on March 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Oshkosh Arena.
