Nick Lagios

General Manager

Nick has developed in different roles in the NBA G League, he worked in South Bay Lakers where he was video coordinator (2016-17) and basketball operations manager2018-21). Nick will be Capitanes GM for third year.

Orlando Mendez

Assistant GM

Orlando, who developed as a professional player for more than 14 years, will be his first year in which he will be part of the team but off the field, helping to train, assist and advise on the new challenges that Capitanes will face this year. Thanks to his long career in the sport, Mendez will add a lot of his knowledge and experience to this new stage with the team.

Ramón Díaz

Head Coach

Ramón Díaz began his career as head coach with Capitanes in 2017. Díaz led Capitanes in two finals during the LNBP participation, and to the Final Four of the Liga de las Américas in 2018. Ramón was also part of the staff that worked on the Mexican National Team, where Mexico returned to a Basketball World Cup after 40 years without participating.

Vitor Galvani

Assistant Coach

Vitor was part of the Brazilian National Team as an assistant coach of the U-18 group. He also worked with the Corinthians for four years as head coach of the U-20 team and assistant coach of the first team. In 2022, Galvani was invited to join Cleveland Cavaliers at the NBA Summer League to assist Head Coach JB Bickerstaff. Vitor will take over as assistant coach for Capitanes.

Danny Soto

Assistant Coach

Danny returns to Capitanes for the 2022-23 season as an Assistant Coach & Video coordinator. He was Video Coordinator and Player Development Intern for two-seasons with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He worked for The University of Texas at San Antonio as Head Student Manager, assisting Head Coach Steve Henson with operations, video, and player development responsibilities.

Derrick Allen

Assistant Coach

Derrick had been a professional basketball player, and he started as a coach in 20219 as an assistant of the Rasta Vechta in the German league and continued in the Bundesliga until 2021 as a head coach. During the 22-23 season, Allen changed to the NBA G League, joining Capital City Go-Go as an assistant coach.

Tyron Roberson

Video Coordinator

Tyron has played basketball for ten years, and he was part of the national champion of the CONDDE 3×3 and the CONADEIP college tournament. Tyron played for the Anahuac team in the second division of the ABE League. Tyron was part of the associate coaches team last season with Capitanes, and for his outstanding work, he has been promoted to video coordinator.

Joseph Reyes

Scouting and Analytics Manager

Joseph was part of the Basketball Operations group for the Texas Legends from 2017 to 2019. During the 2018-2019 season, he assisted the Dallas Mavericks Analytics Department and worked as Dallas Mavericks Video Assistant for two seasons (2019-2021). Reyes started to work with the Capitanes as a Coaching Associate during the 22-23 season.

Daniela Rivero

Manager of basketball operations

Daniela arrives in her first season with Capitanes after having worked as Operations Coordinator at the NBA Academy Latin America for 5 years and having worked on the Basketball Without Borders events in Medellín 2019, Chicago 2020, San Luis Potosí and Canberra 2022 and Montreal, Las Vegas and Wroclaw 2023.

She has a Law Degree, and along in her career, she has developed a focus on Mexican and US immigration procedures and procedures.

Gustavo Lira

Coordinator of basketball operations

He was a basketball coach at “Escuela Moderna Americana” from 2017-2023, he knows the sport in depth and is passionate about it. This will be his second year with the team, he will continue to add his experience and knowledge in the area of basketball operations to the team. He currently supports the development of the Jr. NBA project in Mexico and Latin America, has extensive knowledge of the sport, and recognizes the needs of players for their performance on and off the court.

Ricardo Solis

Utilero

Ricardo Solis has been part of Capitanes since the team’s first season in the LNBP. Ricardo has an important role in the logistics and operations during the practices and games. He has ample knowledge and experience in the management of materials for the staff and players.

Luis Pezzat

Coaching Associate

Luis has been a coach since 2007. He worked with the CONADE Academy, coaching kids and training coaches with Ramon Diaz. He was the regional champion in 2011 and got 5th place in the Mexican national tournament. His team participated in 3rd place in the Juegos Bancarios and was the regional winner in the Copa Telmex. Luis also works in the Capitanes Academy, teaching young coaches.

Rodrigo Mejia

Coaching Associate

Rodrigo played in “Liga ABE”, he has knowledge of basketball in addition to perfectly knowing the psychology of the game and the needs of the players to perform correctly on the court, thanks to his experience as a coach at the American School Foundation.

Gustavo Alvarez Llamas

Coaching Associate

Gustavo has been a coach for more than 13 years, promoting and sharing his knowledge and passion for basketball to the youngest and oldest. His time with Capitanes began 2 years ago, with him being responsible for the senior categories of the Academy. Gustavo always seeks to contribute the Capitanes game philosophy in the various places where basketball is played and trying to provide better players, but above all better people, to our country.

Octavio Pérez

Coaching Associate

Octavio joins Capitanes after being the Assistant Coach of the varsity team in The American School Foundation. He has participated in The Ultimate Basketball Camp (from 2015 to 2022) as a Middle and Lower School Categories Coach. Perez has been a player since 2013 with UNAM Highschool and College teams and with Tec de Monterrey as part of their College team.

Josue Flores

Head Athletic Trainer

Graduated from Texas State University with a bachelors in athletic training in 2012, then proceeded to obtain a masters of degree from East Stroudsburg University in athletic training. His experience encompasses working from middle school/high school athletes to collegiate D1 and D1 athletes, these being the limit of sporting excellence and physical performance.

Gianni Millan

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Gianni Millan joins the Capitanes Athletic Training Staff as the Assistant Athletic Trainer ahead of the 2023-24 season. Millan joins the Capitanes after residing in New Orleans, Louisiana where he worked with the University of New Orleans men’s basketball team. Millan’s main assignment was to carry out Athletic Training duties for the men’s basketball program. Millan Worked with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans from 2013-2020 as a team attendant handling equipment management duties.

Ricardo López

S&C Coach

Ricardo López has international experience as a Physical Trainer with the Venezuelan National Basketball Team, in the Japan-Philippines-Indonesia 2023 World Cup (FIBA), in the Americup 2022 in Brazil and in the Pre-Olympic Tournament in Lithuania for Tokyo 2021. He also worked with the Guaiqueríes de Margarita team for 4 seasons and with the Trotamundos de Carabobo team for 3 seasons in Venezuela as the main Physical Trainer of the professional team.

Francisco Calvillo

Athletic Trainer Associate

Francisco started early his career with the “Academia Capitanes”, due to his work and participation with the “Academia” he earned a spot with the team last season, where he developed as a physiotherapist for the team.

Juan Fernando Calderon

Team Doctor

Graduated from the UNAM Faculty of Medicine with a postgraduate degree in general surgery (2004) and neurosurgery 2005-2009. He is a founding partner of the brain and spine clinic. With practical training abroad and more than 14 years of medical experience, Doctor Calderón comes with extensive experience to fulfill the functions of team doctor.

Boris Beric

Lead College Scout

Boris comes to the Capitanes from BPA Hoops, a scouting/consulting service used by NBA teams, where he has over five years of experience scouting talent for the professional level. Based out of New Jersey where he graduated in 2021 from Rutgers, Boris has family roots stemming from Croatia and understands the importance of helping grow the game in Latin America which has the potential to make an imprint internationally in the basketball community

Dakota Schmidt

Pro Personnel Scout

Dakota Schmidt (Pro Personnel Scout) – Prior to joining Capitanes , I spent almost a decade writing about the G League and basketball as a whole for outlets like ESPN, SBNation, Ridiculous Upside, and The Call-Up newsletter. My goal within my role with Capitanes is to both contribute in building the roster while also scouting young Mexican and Latin American talent. Received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Rasmussen College in June 2022.

Orlando Del Hoyo

Pro Personnel Scout

Orlando enters his 3rd year with the Capitanes as Pro Personnel Scout. Previously, he was an assistant coach with McDaniel College from 2019-2023 where his tasks included on-court coaching, recruiting, and scouting reports of opponents. Beginning his career in his home island of Puerto Rico in several levels, his experience includes volunteer work with the Canada and Puerto Rico Men’s Basketball teams. For the Capitanes he will help in identifying Latin American talent and creating reports of them

Adam Bartoshevich

Scouting Associate

Adam Bartoshevich begins his first season with the Mexico City Capitanes. A graduate from Marquette University, he will be helping with international scouting and basketball operations related activities. Adam has experience coaching youth programs and players, along with assisting sports agencies and the marketing of collegiate prospects. A native from Franklin, WI, Adam has aspirations of helping the Capitanes make their first playoff appearance.

Ari Levy

Ari Levy, is a scouting associate who has brought his passion for the game to the heart of Mexico City. With a keen eye for talent and a commitment to leaving no stone unturned, he has embarked on a mission to identify and recruit the finest basketball players in LATAM for the Mexico City Capitanes. As a scout for the Mexico City Capitanes, Ari’s goal is clear: to help build a championship-caliber team by identifying and recruiting top-tier talent. With an insatiable appetite for the game, an unwavering commitment to research, and an acute basketball IQ, Ari is determined to play a pivotal role in the team’s success.

Diego Gonzalez Plata

Analytics Associate

1st year with Capitanes. Graduate of Tecnológico de Monterrey with a background in analytics. My previous experience includes working with analytics in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol. I am excited to bring my expertise to the world of basketball analytics, where I am currently in my first full season. My goal is to contribute to Capitanes’ success in any way within my reach and help them secure a championship.
