Capitanes begin to announce 2021-22 roster

Mexico City, October 22, 2021 – Mexico City Capitanes today have started announcing its roster for its first season in the NBA G League.

14 players will join the training camp from October 25 to November 4, and just 12 players will be part of the final roster. 

Mike Torres

Position: PG

Nationality: Dominican Republic/Spain

Born: 11/21/1994

Height 6’2’’

Mike Torres joins Capitanes from Real Betis of the Liga Endesa where he played 38 games during the 2020-21 season. 

Mike spent part of the 2021-22 season with Belfius Mons in Belgium, where he averaged 7.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Torres has been part of the Dominican Republic National Team since 2021.

CJ Rodriguez

Position: PG

Nationality: Panama/USA

Born: 08/02/1994

Height 6’2’’

CJ joins Capitanes from Caballos de Cocle (Panamanian Professional League), where he played five games during the 2021-22 season, averaging 18.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.

He was a Capitanes player in the 2019-20 season, he played seven games during the last year of Capitanes in the Mexican Professional League.

 

Kadeem Jack

Position: Center

Nationality: Trinidad & Tobago /USA

Born: 10/27/1992

Height 6’9’’

Mexico City Capitanes acquired the returning player rights to Kadeem Jack in a trade with Oklahoma City Blue.

Kadeem is one of the Capitanes’ players who have experience playing in the NBA G League. During the 2019-20 season, he signed with the Oklahoma City Blue where he played 34 games. 

Last year, Kadeem signed with Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Puerto Rican Professional League where he averaged 4.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Fabian Jaimes

Position: PF

Nationality: Mexico

Born: 09/22/1992

Height: 6’8’’

 Fabian Jaimes has joined the Capitanes for its first season in the NBA G League.

Jaimes has spent the last three years playing in Panteras de Aguascalientes of the Mexican Professional Basketball League. In the 2020-21 season, he played 14 games and averaged 7.4 points, 1.4 assists, and 5.4 rebounds.

Jordan Howard

Position: SG

Nationality: Puerto Rico/USA

Born: 01/06/1996

Height: 5’11’’

The Puerto Rican joins Capitanes from Guayama of the Puerto Rico Professional Basketball League where he played the last two seasons. 

Jordan spent part of the 2018-19 NBA G League season with Raptors 905 and the Texas Legends.  In 26 total games combined between the two teams, he averaged 11.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Alfonzo McKinnie

Position: SF

Nationality: USA

Born: 09/17/1992

Height: 6’8’’

Alfonzo McKinnie has joined the Capitanes for its first season in the NBA G League.

 McKinnie has spent the last four years playing in the NBA. He started the 2020-21 season playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In November 2020, he was traded to Los Angeles Lakers, where he played 41 games and averaged 4.3 points, 0.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds.

McKinnie has experience in Mexican basketball as he and led Rayos de Hermosillo to its regular-season championship of CIBACOPA in 2016.

Matt Mooney

Position: PG

Nationality: USA

Born: 02/07/1997

Height: 6’3’’

Mexico City Capitanes acquired the returning player rights to Matt Mooney in a trade with Raptors 905.

Mooney is one of the Capitanes’ players who have experience playing in the NBA. During the 2019-20 season, he signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he played four games.

Justin Reyes

Position: SF

Nationality: Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic

Born: 03/16/1995

Height: 6’4’’

 

 Following two seasons with the Indios de Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Professional League, Justin Reyes is the second player acquired by Capitanes. Justin played 20 games last season with Indios, where he averaged 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Reyes last played in the NBA G League during the 2019-20 season when he spent time with Raptors 905.

“I am really excited to be a part of the Capitanes. It’s great to be a part of a new team because everyone is coming together to build something good. My goals are to do everything I can to help win games no matter what role I play and I expect to help create more opportunities for both the Latin American culture and younger players who haven’t been in the G League before.”, Justin Reyes  

 Tyler Davis

Position: Center Nationality: Puerto Rico/USA Born: 05/22/1997 Height 6’10’’ The Puerto Rican joins Capitanes from Jeounju KCC Egis (Korea Basketball League), where he played 44 games during the 2021-22 season, averaging 14.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Davis has played for Puerto Rico’s national basketball team since 2017. He has previous experience in the NBA G League as he played for the Oklahoma City Blue during the 2018-19 season. “I’m excited to be playing with Mexico City Capitanes this season.
